The Technical Designer will work closely with the design team throughout the development cycle. From concept to preproduction, the Technical Designer will create samples that reflect the design’s aesthetic and meet manufacturing standards. The person in this role will advise on all technical issues, communicate technical requirements to Pre- Production, and partner with relevant parties to achieve all development deadlines.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with designers to create tech packs for proto and sales samples, merchandising requests, special programs and test garments
- Research new finishing and construction techniques seasonally
- Provide technical solutions to construction issues
- Partner closely with factory partners to resolve any outstanding issues during development cycle
- Serves as a liaison to NY sample room ensuring that quality standards and deadlines are consistently met
- Review pre-fit and costing notes with Pre-Production and work together to revise garments based on construction issues or cost objectives
- Add key measurements, ensure that photos are up to date and update sketches to accurately reflect finished samples in DeSL system
- Record patternmaker and designer’s notes in New York development fittings
- Attend Pre-Production fittings to ensure design aesthetic is maintained and to advise on any technical issues
- Possible travel to Shantou, China to assist with seasonal collection development as needed
Qualifications:
- Fashion Degree with specialization in garment construction
- 5-7 year’s fashion industry experience on design or product development team
- Full understanding of technology and its applications in product development
- Proficiency in Microsoft office required
- Proficiency in DeSL, Illustrator, Photoshop, Bridge, Adobe Acrobat
- Knowledge of product development cycle
- Detail-oriented and results-driven
- Must be able to partner cross functionally
- Effective time management and prioritization skills
