IN THE STUDIO:
ALEXANDRA KOHL

Inspired by the Fall 2025 Collection entitled “Woven Stories”, New York-based weaver Alexandra Kohl crafted 12 custom tapestries to exhibit in Lafayette 148 boutiques for the fall season. Reflecting the collection’s tribute to centuries of female weavers and textile artists, Alexandra Kohl’s works weave natural horse hair into minimalist, architectural works of art transmitting a meditative, healing essence through the stillness of simple design and an equine spirit. Step into the artist’s Westchester studio in the heart of New York horse country to see the craft behind the designs.

From her Westchester studio, Kohl transforms thread and horsehair into minimalist works of woven architecture with an equine spirit. On her loom, she winds the warp, draws the linen threads, and hand-guides natural horsehair into place. The last piece: stitching each piece by hand, a meticulous process that took more than a month to complete. “Since these are exhibited in the boutique windows, I wanted to make patterns that were bold enough to see from far away, but as you come closer, you can see the tiny details and appreciate it,” the artist tells L148.
