Patternmaker, Soft Pieces

Job Summary

The Patternmaker, Soft Pieces is responsible for meeting the design aesthetics and integrity of Lafayette 148’s collection each season through development of patterns for the classifications of dresses, blouses, and skirts. This individual will work closely with our Designers and Technical Design teams to achieve our Creative Director’s vision by modifying patterns to specifications of fit through protos, show samples, fit samples, all the way through to production.

Responsibilities:

  • Create patterns for soft pieces, including dresses, blouses, and skirts, using both manual and digital techniques.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Design team to develop muslins and garments based on sketches, tech packs, inspirational images, or original samples from the Design team.
  • Provide guidance on slopers, construction methods, and finishing techniques based on style and fabric requirements.
  • Ensure timely completion of samples and muslins according to seasonal deliverable dates.
  • Engage in Design and Production fittings to troubleshoot and resolve fit or construction issues while preserving the integrity of the design.
  • Finalize patterns, cutters’ musts, and finished measurements for handoff to the Pre-Production team.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in pattern making, specifically with soft, draped garments

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of soft fabrics and appropriate finishings and construction techniques
  • Advanced technical skills in both manual and digital pattern drafting; proficiency in pattern-making software such as Gerber
  • Proficient in technical design, fittings, garment construction, patternmaking, sizing/grading, collaboration with sewers, and interpretation and translation of fashion design into pattern
  • High level of precision in pattern creation and garment fit, with a keen eye for aesthetics and garment proportions
  • Collaborative work style, with excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Must have first-hand knowledge of sewing and factory processes
  • Must understand and be capable of directing team on grade rules standards
  • Strong multitasking skills, with the ability to seamlessly manage multiple projects at once
  • Team player with ability to work under pressure and able to collaborate cross-functionally to ensure deadlines are met

Base Pay Range:

The base salary range for this position is $90,000 - $125,000 annually. Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, and location.
