The Technical Designer, Knitwear is responsible for facilitating the transition of styles from conceptual design intent to final production: executing samples from prototype into bulk while maintaining the quality and workmanship standards of the brand.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with design to gain clear direction and consensus of fit intent
  • Complete design tech packs, including any necessary detailed sketches with measurements and construction details
  • Communicate to the factory all technical information, corrections, and approvals to facilitate sample making and fit approval
  • Travel to factory seasonally to oversee the proper execution of development sweaters and cut and sew samples
  • Facilitate fit sessions on model/mannequin for both development and preproduction. Determine appropriate fit and construction adjustments required to ensure integrity of design approved product.
  • Partner with factory and production teams to ensure products are developed in a manner consistent with established fit and quality standards, factory capabilities, cost specifications, and fit release deadlines
  • Communicate to the factory any special washing, ship instructions, labelling and grading requirements
  • Provide technical expertise to customer care, and manage master spec sheets and DeSL technical descriptions
  • Partner with Marketing and Creative Services departments on proofing of catalogue and web material for accuracy of style imagery and technical verbiage
  • Provide team leadership within the technical team, as well as, manage one Associate Technical Designer

 

Desired Background:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree (Fashion Design or related field)
  • Designer/Luxury brand experience preferred

 

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in Technical Design, specifically in Sweater and/or Cut & Sew product

 

Skills:

  • Must have extensive knowledge of knit techniques, terminology, garment construction and fit
  • Must be able to communicate fit corrections to factory team
  • Must be able to manage working on multiple seasons simultaneously and be a proactive problem solver
  • Needs to be proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Must have good understanding of product management systems, DeSL a plus
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline driven environment, while working independently and as part of a team
