ANNE
PASTERNAK

FIRST WOMAN DIRECTOR OF THE BROOKLYN MUSEUM.

ART CURATOR. COMMUNITY BUILDER. PATH BREAKER.

ADVOCATE OF ART FOR ALL.

Anne Pasternak’s unordinary gift for embracing the transformative power of art was evident long before she joined the Brooklyn Museum. Among the groundbreaking public art works she’s overseen in her career has been New York City’s 9/11 memorial “Tribute in Light.” Today she’s the first woman director of a museum that’s become a model for inclusivity and promoting the work of women artists. But it hasn’t been easy. Watch her film and see why.

She credits Thelma Golden, the museum director of the Studio Museum of Harlem, for helping her reach for her dreams and succeed. “She’s one of the most unordinary, extraordinary women in my life, actually. She gave me my first serious chance at a major job. And she’s mentored me along the way—helping me think about the role that art can play in transforming society.
